Sweet and Sour Sauce

Ingredients

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup, plus 1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon chopped green bell pepper
1 tablespoon chopped pimentos
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon paprika

Preparation

  1. In a saucepan combine the sugar, vinegar, the 1/2 cup of water, bell pepper, pimento, and salt; simmer for 5 minutes. Stir together the cornstarch and the remaining 1 tablespoon water. Add this to the vinegar mixture; remove the pan from the heat and stir until thick. Add the paprika and let cool completely. Serve with fried shrimp, fried chicken bites, or pork bites.
