Steamed Broccoli and Cauliflower

I have long enjoyed combining these two cruciferous vegetables. Broccoli takes slightly more time to cook than cauliflower, so it is given a head start.

Recipe information

  • Yield

    4 to 6 servings

Ingredients

2 medium broccoli crowns, cut into bite-size pieces
1 small head cauliflower, cut into bite-size pieces
1 tablespoon nonhydrogenated margarine
Pinch of salt

Preparation

  1. Step 1

Combine the broccoli in a large, deep saucepan or 1Ā 1/2-quart casserole dish with about 1 inch of water. Steam over medium heat or microwave for 2 minutes to 3 minutes, just until it begins to turn bright green.

    Step 2

Stir in the cauliflower and continue to steam or microwave until both are done to your liking, 4 to 6 minutes. Drain, and return to the casserole dish or a serving container. Stir in the margarine to melt, season with salt, and serve.
